Portrait Consultations
At Michael Anthony Studios we aim to create more than just pictures. Our goal is to produce a timeless piece of art you’ll cherish for a lifetime. Portrait consultations help us do just that! You will meet with one of our friendly, experienced Portrait Specialists to discuss all details of your portrait session, including backdrop and prop selection, portrait style, and clothing choice. We can even help you customize your portrait to best compliment your home décor. Portrait consultations are always complimentary and are available on request by appointment only.
Clothing Suggestions
When choosing an outfit for your portrait session remember that SIMPLICITY is key. An outfit should never detract from the subject of the portrait. Please feel free to browse our galleries for examples.
Black and White Portraits- Dark colors work best. We recommend black, navy, brown, burgundy or gray turtlenecks or long sleeved shirts. Black pants or jeans are preferred. An all black outfit choice is an exceptionally striking way to draw attention to a subject’s face.
Color portraits- Solid colors, free of busy patterns or distracting logos work best. Pastels add a softening effect to subjects while primary colors create a bolder one. For a classic look, we suggest white tee or button down shirts and denim jeans.
Newborns- We suggest “au natural” or a simple, white onesie that’s free of patterns and logos. Please remember to bring extra changes of clothing for any unexpected “ickies” that may occur.
Infants- Again, we recommend “the birthday suit”. If you would like to have your infant photographed in clothing, we suggest simple outfits free of distracting patterns, logos or characters. Bare, baby feet are always preferred over shoes. A baby’s delightful disposition is often disrupted by outfit changes. Therefore we ask that you please limit outfit changes to no more than two.
Children- Nothing too fussy. We recommend overalls, denim jeans, khakis, solid color shirts, and simple dresses free of busy patterns, logos or characters. Bare feet also work in children’s portraits. If you prefer to dress your little one in shoes, please make sure they are free of scuffs and coordinate well with the chosen outfit(s).
Family or Large Group- We suggest choosing a color theme and clothing style that best represents your family. To maintain uniformity in the portrait we suggest having everyone dress in the same color tone. Yes, this will take some coordinated effort but the results will be sure to please!
Maternity- Maternity portraits are best showcased in black and white. Clothing style will depend on the style of maternity portrait you are seeking. We suggest white or black tank tops or tube tops, crisp black or white button down shirts that will expose the belly and black maternity pants or jeans.
